Texas Congressman Wants Crypto ATMs in Federal Government Buildings

Congressman Lance Gooden who represents Texas’ 5th District in the U.S. House of Representatives submitted a letter on Thursday to the General Services Administration (GSA), an arm of the government that helps manage federal properties, calling for the installation of cryptocurrency ATMs in government buildings in order to “provide a convenient option for citizens who rely on digital assets.”

The letter, which is addressed to GSA Administrator Stephen Ehikian, urges the agency to live up to its mission of fostering innovation and enhancing public infrastructure. According to its website, the GSA manages buildings such as courthouses, post offices, ports of entry, laboratories, and data processing centers. The agency employs more than 12,000 employees and oversees $105 billion in annual contracts.

And now Gooden is arguing that a portion of those resources be put towards President Donald’s Trump vision of making the U.S. “the crypto capital of the world” by installing crypto ATMs in at least some of the 8,397 buildings managed by the GSA, which says its real estate portfolio is one of the largest in the world.

“Expanding accessibility to crypto ATMs within federal buildings aligns with President Trump’s vision of positioning the United States as a global leader in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology,” Gooden explained. “By embracing this initiative, we can take a significant step toward realizing that vision and solidifying our nation’s status as a superpower in the digital financial landscape.”
